Season for Student Treks

15/01/2010

It is that time of year again when students begin preparations for their international Treks. Week 2 of Hilary Term will see the students pitch their Trek to the Alumni Relations Office and Careers Centre for School support.

Student Treks are student-led visits to certain parts of the world to:
• understand what it is like to do business there;
• meet potential recruiters;
• meet alumni both in their corporate and personal capacities;
• build a sense of community by engaging alumni and recruiters;
• serve as Saïd Business School and Oxford ambassadors across the globe;
• outreach to prospective and incoming students.

Soon, the Alumni Relations Office will reach out to alumni living in the regions where Treks will be taking place, and asking for your support.

Alumni can support Treks in a number of ways, such as:
• offer your place of business for an official Trek Company Visit
• offer an informal meeting with you or a key colleague at your company or off-site
• offer venue space in your company for an alumni/student reception
• recommend venues in your city for an alumni/student reception
• recommend hotels, restaurants, sites to visit in your city
• serve as a friendly point of contact to help answer any logistical questions or offer helpful tips during the planning or visiting phases
• offer any other type of support that is specific to your city or region

So far, we have heard initial interest in Treks to:
• Silicon Valley
• Latin America
• India
• Nigeria/Ghana
• HK/Shanghai
• Singapore
• Dubai/Middle East
• Japan
• Germany
• Spain

If you would like to get involved and help support a Trek to your region, please contact Ladd Thurston in the Alumni Relations Office at ladd.thurston@sbs.ox.ac.uk.
