Letter from the Dean - July 2010

12/07/2010

I am delighted to be able to report that agreement has now been reached on construction of the Phase 2 building. Construction will start over the summer and is due to be completed in time for the building to open for the academic year 2012/13.

This is of immense significance for the School. Firstly, the building will allow the School to integrate its executive education with the rest of its activities. As I have mentioned in previous newsletters, executive education has been an extraordinary success story over the last four years since the School acquired it from Templeton College. It has grown to a scale that was only anticipated for the middle of the next decade. With this success has come a need for additional physical capacity which the Phase 2 building will allow the School to meet. In addition to executive education, it will enable the School to expand its degree programmes.

Still more significantly, the new building signals the next phase in the development of the School. As you will be aware, over the last few years the School has been very successful on numerous fronts such as its undergraduate and its postgraduate degree programmes and in establishing high profile research centres. The School has now reached a point where it is widely regarded as making a major impact on business education at the international level.

Phase 2 is the realisation of the process of moving the School from its current position to being one of a handful of the top business schools in the world. It involves the completion of the process of creating a school that excels in the quality of its education and research, and their impact on business practice and policy around the world.

This is a very exciting time for the School and I hope that you will be able to come back for the reunion weekend in September to experience some of that excitement. I very much look forward to seeing you there.

With best wishes

Colin
